A Toast to Ntsiki Biyela
Ntsiki Biyela, the first black female winemaker in South Africa. After
working as a domestic, Ms. Biyela learned about an initiative to bring
people of color into the wine industry.
She applied and received a four-year scholarship to the renowned Stellenbosch University where she graduated with a degree in viticulture and oenology. Later Ntsiki was hired as junior winemaker for a small family owned winery, #Stellakaya where under her direction and skill, the company won numerous prestigious awards.
In 2009, Ntsiki Biyela was named South Africa’s Woman Winemaker of the Year. She has since left #Stellakaya and started her own brand, #Aslina, named after her late grandmother. Once again… a toast to the true #Wakandan spirit of boss ladies like Ntsiki Biyela around the world!
